Asian Session
The Asian Session, also known as the Tokyo or Sydney session, is the first trading session of the day in the forex market, covering the hours when Tokyo and Sydney markets are open. It is the most active session in terms of the number of traders, with a significant volume of trades taking place.
How It Works
The Asian Session begins at 00:00 GMT and ends at 09:00 GMT, coinciding with the opening hours of the Tokyo Stock Exchange (00:00 - 03:00 GMT) and the Sydney Stock Exchange (01:00 - 08:00 GMT). During this time, the Japanese Yen and the Australian Dollar are the most actively traded currencies. The session is also influenced by economic data releases from Asia, such as Chinese GDP and Japanese inflation rates.
Why It Matters
The Asian Session is crucial for several reasons. Firstly, it sets the tone for the rest of the trading day, with price movements during this session often carrying over into the London and New York sessions. Secondly, it provides an opportunity for traders in the Asia-Pacific region to participate in the forex market. Lastly, it is a time when certain pairs, such as USD/JPY and AUD/USD, exhibit unique volatility patterns, presenting unique trading opportunities.
