MAM Account

Definition
Multi-Account Manager — manage multiple sub-accounts from one.

A Multi-Account Manager (MAM) account is a unique trading facility offered by Forex and CFD brokers, enabling a single master account to control and manage multiple sub-accounts simultaneously. This feature is particularly useful for professional traders who wish to manage a portfolio of client accounts efficiently.

How It Works

In a MAM account setup, the master account is linked to one or more sub-accounts, which act as the managed accounts. The master account holder, known as the Multi-Account Manager, has full control over the trading activities in the sub-accounts. Here's a simplified breakdown of how it works:

  • The MAM installs the MAM plugin or software provided by the broker on the master account's trading platform.
  • The MAM configures the plugin to define the risk percentage for each sub-account, determining the proportion of the master account's trades that will be replicated in the sub-accounts.
  • The MAM places trades from the master account. These trades are automatically replicated in the sub-accounts according to the predefined risk percentage.
  • The MAM can monitor and manage all sub-accounts' performance, equity, and open positions from the master account's interface.

Why It Matters

MAM accounts matter for several reasons, making them an essential tool for professional traders and money managers:

  • Efficiency: MAM accounts allow traders to manage multiple accounts from a single interface, saving time and effort in trade execution and monitoring.
  • Risk Management: By setting different risk percentages for each sub-account, the MAM can tailor trading strategies to each client's risk tolerance and investment size.
  • Transparency: MAM accounts provide full transparency to both the MAM and the clients, as all trades are executed and visible in the respective sub-accounts.
  • Client Acquisition and Retention: By offering MAM-managed accounts, brokers can attract professional traders looking to manage client funds and retain clients who prefer a managed trading service.
